To warm your winter (yes even in California it's cold). Here is a centuries-old recipe from the Dauphiné, a french area close to the Alps mountains.

Ingredients:
Potatoes :2 Lnds
Milk: 10 oz
Heavy whipping cream: 8oz
Butter
2 cloves of garlic
Peel and slice your potatoes really thinly. Put them in a pot with a little bit of melted butter, add all the milk and let it boil, then reduce the heat and let it cook during 10 minutes.
Add the cream and let it cook again during 10 min at low heat.
Preheat your oven at 350 F.
Butter your oven dish, add the two crushed cloves of garlic to your meal and gently pour everything in the dish.
Cook 25 min at 350 F.
You can add some grated cheese on top it will give a nice brown color to your dish.
Bon appetit!
